Love month

We've all heard of self love, self care, and self preservation. What, though, is radical self love?

Radical self love is deciding to care for yourself above others, placing your needs first, taking care of your body, and doing the things that fill your soul daily.

Why would you want to commit to radical self love?

As caretakers, parents, employees, and even teenagers, we can get into a cycle where life gets in the way of caring for ourselves.  We can get so caught up in making sure everyone else's needs are met that we forget our own. School, children, our job, and the Facebook and Twitter account can become more important than our own self care.

How do we get into this rut?  Why is it so easy to get dragged down that we forget ourselves and what we really want to do with our lives?

It's easy because it's insidious. It starts small, builds slowly, and then our responsibilities snowball out of control and we are left with no time for ourselves.

The best way to start practicing self care is to commit to one small act every day. Even if that just means taking a walk around the block, you'll be starting healthy habits that will grow into a commitment to yourself, and then you won't want to give that up.

When we feel good about ourselves, it's easy to care for others and meet our responsibilities every day. And that is what self love is all about.
