Preventative Care



When I worked as an oncology nurse, I'd give IV chemotherapy to patients. I was alarmed at the strange places that they would feel the drugs working, and asked my mentor if it was normal for their tumors to be anywhere. She said yes, cancer can be anywhere in the body, and chemotherapy can act on those tumors, so patients can feel burning, pain, or tingling at the tumor site.

I didn't practice in oncology for very long because as an empath it was difficult to see patients suffering with cancers that sometimes had no cure. I understand now that cancer has many reasons for existing, some of which have to do with the person's path in life and their soul's lessons to learn.

Fast forward to several years later. I was introduced to an energy worker who explained the energy field and its layers to me. She said that cancer and other diseases can manifest in the energy layers long before they manifest in the body, and that the blocks that I had in my emotional field would one day become cancerous if I didn't take care of myself.

That advice was jarring and very hard to listen to. It sounded like blaming someone for the fact that they have cancer, because they hadn't cleared out their anger or their fear, or their depression. I have had many experiences clearing out blocks from my own and my clients' energy fields, and I can't say that I see a direct correlation between those blocks and the tumors I treated in the hospital.

However, I do see that clearing out energy blocks in the field is part of preventative care. Reiki and Healing Touch can definitely help clear out blocks in our field, help our energy regain balance, and detoxify the body. Energy work can also support patients who are going through chemotherapy or radiation, by providing relief from stress, anxiety, pain and fatigue. 

As a nurse who has been on both sides of the care spectrum, I offer compassionate and comforting treatments to clients who come to me for Reiki and Healing Touch.
